Postpartum lower back, hip and pelvic pain are relatively common, even after the six-week mark. Changes of the body during pregnancy and increased stress on the pelvis during childbirth place women at a higher risk of developing SI joint dysfunction or lower back pain.

Bauerfeind lower back braces and the SacroLoc SI joint belt relieve, stabilize and activate your lumbar spine and pelvis for faster recovery and more comfort during your day. Try Bauerfeind products risk-free with our 60-day money-back guarantee.

Why does my lower back still hurt after giving birth?

Depending on the size of the baby bump, the curvature of the spine might increase with a forward tilt of the pelvis during pregnancy. Pregnancy hormones loosen joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments for an easier delivery and can do so even months after giving birth. Together with weakened and stretched core muscles, you might feel lower back pain. Bending over to reach the baby, as well as improper posture lifting and nursing the baby, can aggravate postpartum back pain further.

How does lower back pain, pelvic girdle or SI joint pain feel?

Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain can be described as a dull persistent pain or sharp shooting pain during certain movements such as bending down. The pain and subsequent posture adjustment to help relieve pain can cause cramping (spasms) of the muscles in the lower back. Pain is often worse in certain positions and gets better while lying down. Many women also report stiffness or reduced range of motion.

Pelvic Girdle Pain
Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) can be located in the front of the pelvis (symphysis pubis), perineum or in the lower back where the SI joints are located.

SI Joint Pain
SI joint pain, a type of pelvic girdle pain, is mostly located at the upper buttock region right over the SI joints, with dull pain sometimes radiating into the thighs and glutes that worsens when standing, climbing stairs or walking.
